    Excel In Life Through Training

Deuteronomy 30:19 reads: "Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessing and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choices you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your children may live."

Wow! What a lot of pressure. God gives us the choice in matters of life and death, then He sets up all of heaven and earth to watch us as He cheers us on in the hope that we will make the right choice.

It really isn't all that complicated in real life. 99% of the time we are not confused as to the right choice. It's that we have a hard time making the choice that we know is right.

How do we get to the point where we make more correct choices?  How do we embrace the choice of life and blessings and avoid death and curses?

There is only one way that I know of and that is through training. Training the body, soul and spirit to submit to God's Spirit.

    Get disciplined moment to moment.

If you have been disciplined in your eating, it is easier to make good food choices.
If you have been disciplined in your physical training, it is easier to hit the workout than to skip it.

Here is how choosing life looks in real time.

    Choose life or death.

What I eat: high calorie empty carb or high density nutrient foods.
What I drink: water vs sugar water vs alcohol.
What I watch: shows that are dark or shows that are wholesome.
What I listen to: podcasts that are enriching vs talk radio.
What I think about: positive or negative.
What I read: uplifting material or bad news.
What I do for a workout: all out or mail in an easy one.
Who I hang out with: people with a common vision vs people who bring me down.
When I get home: engage with my family or check out.

You get the idea. The list is endless and is personal to you.
The truth that I want you to see is that every one of these decisions is crucial. Each one builds on the next.
Every area of your life interacts with every other area.
You hit your workout and your marriage gets better. You bring home flowers and your practice grows. You stop drinking alcohol in excess and your kids grades go up.

Every area that you train and build up overflows into every other area. If you choose life consistently enough and for long enough what forms in your life is the Abundant Life.

What comes out of you is Life Giving.

Start choosing life right now. Don't wait for tomorrow.  When it comes to making good choices they have to be made today because tomorrow never comes.

In your list of examples there are certain ones that hit me. I know I'm not making life decisions for those. Thanks for opening my eyes!

Great word Yurij! Thanks for "choosing" to write this encouraging article! I'm so thankful that God is always with us, but doesn't micromanage all of our choices for us. Once we have tasted his goodness, our ultimate desire is to desire more of Him. I love how John Piper puts it. "God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him."

It's easier to see the distinctions between the choices I make when I'm able to step back and look objectively at them. When I'm in the moment & the emotions of the moment, it isn't quite as obvious. That's where the training has made the biggest difference for me - I see the choices more objectively when I am trained up and more emotionally when I am in survival mode. Thanks for the encouragement and the love that cares enough to push us forward. (Push me forward). As always Yurij, you are a blessing.

This is awesome, Yurij! It's like there are NO inconsequential choices to be had. All are important - life or death - and linked to other choices, things and people in our lives. And God cheering us on to keep trying to make the best choice between something life-giving or not. Thanks!

Thanks Coach!! So very SIMPLE, but not so easy. Thanks for the seminars to help renew our minds and help keep us training at the standard that our Father wants us to train/live at. I learned again this week that even when I am being obedient-- I must choose to submit my attitude and heart as well as my body. So I will be obedient and WALK instead of run for now and enjoy His plan for as long as this season is. Blessings!

I read this morning "Do you not know that you are Gods temple and that Gods spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys Gods temple, God will destroy that person. For Gods temple is holy, and you are that temple" (1 Corinthians 3:16-17) I was wondering why God would want to destroy us??? I suppose if we choose death and make poor choices essentially we are destroying ourselves because Gods spirit is in us, Gods spirit is life itself, and if we yield to death and its choices we will lose our life... Amazing how God gives me a choice every day and if I honour the sacredness of myself and of those around me by choosing life and making good choices then life is abundant!

For sure my life is improving in all areas since I have begun to understand the interdependence of all of the choices that I make every day. And putting it all in practice one day and one step at the time.Great seminar in Florida, it reinforced the criticality of training and training with purpose. thanks Yurij!
