Marie and I recently got back from a mission trip to Nicaragua with Compassion Canada. It was an awesome trip and something shifted deep inside of me.
I believe the core of the shift relates to seeing people who have nothing but Jesus having more joy and enthusiasm than I do most of the time. It also relates to a confirmation that I need to continue to simplify my life and not let feature creep make things complicated. Plus it confirmed that I need to continue to fight against the scarcity gospel
and the prosperity gospel and camp out in the
generosity gospel.
You are probably wondering- why all this preamble and how does it relate to enthusiasm?
I'm not sure how it worked itself out but it got into me and it got into my conversion report on Monday night.
Reflecting on it I think that the trip let me see clearly what was important in life. I stopped focusing on
my wants and needs and I was able to focus more on the desperate needs of the people sitting in front of me.
By focusing on
them and the solution that I had for them with fresh eyes, my level of enthusiasm and passion to serve them bubbled up and overflowed. As it turned out, that night everyone signed up for care.
It's not about the outcome, it's about the process. I would go back and deliver the exact same report even if nobody signed up, but that is the reason everyone
did sign up. You get that?
This may seem obvious and perhaps even trivial but I guarantee you that if you continuously focus on getting yourself out of the way and focus on the needs of the person in front of you, you will take your life to the next level.
No matter where your walk is now, there is another level. There are multiple levels. The deeper you go the better it gets.
One last thing. For so many reasons
Compassion is an absolutely incredible organization. If you want to truly save lives for eternity and challenge your ability to be generous,
sponsor a child through Compassion. For our USA brothers and sisters, you can go online and checkout Compassion International at
www.compassion.com, and for the Canucks go to
www.compassion.ca.
Sponsor a child and you will be rewarded here on earth and in heaven.
God Bless,
Coach Yurij
