    Summer Knucklehead or Whiz Kid?

So summer is finally here.  As Nat King Cole sang, “Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer, those days of soda and pretzels and beer!”  What?  That is definitely not what Warriors should be whistling.  You don’t want your brain going lazy, and then hazy, which then leads to crazy!  You don’t want to feed your body a steady diet of soda and pretzels and beer.

That kind of diet for your mind and your body will not only lead to a dummy dip, it will cause a knucklehead nose dive!  It’s a one-two punch that will have you moving around like a sloth for the next two months, and cause you to cry on your performance sheet in September and October.

So what do you do to prevent that knucklehead nose dive?

Make your bed every morning!  That’s right, start your day right.  Get one habit in place every day and the rest will follow.  Here is my suggestion: commit to a consistent morning time, and get a workout done in the morning!

Summer is busy, full of distractions and odd schedules.  The morning is the easiest to control because everyone else is still sleeping.  If you stay consistent with this one routine during your morning time, the rest will fall into place.  Get up in the morning with your Bible, journal and Warrior Way 90 Day, and spend 30 to 45 minutes getting good with God and identifying the most important things for the day.  Next, do a 30 to 45 minute gut-busting, puke-spewing workout.  If it’s a run, warm up for 10 minutes and then run like the local junk yard dog is chasing you for 20 minutes.  If it’s pounding out some reps at the gym, keep it super intense, get swoll, and then get out.

If you do this kind of morning time for as little as an hour a day, your summer will rock.  You will have more energy for your family and your patients.  You will have better discipline for what you put in your mouth.  You will continue to reach out to the lost and sick in your community.  You will be fun to be around on your holidays.

Which will it be?  Hit the snooze button and have a knucklehead nose dive, or have the feet hit the floor and have a whiz kid climb?

Discipline is freedom!  Got to go.
